Justice Development and Peace Caritas was created as a pontifical Commission on January 6th 1967 with the name “JUSTICIA ET PAX”. The Purpose of the commission is to awaken in the people of God, full awareness of their mission today, to join the improvement process of the poorer nations and the International Social Justice as well as their own development for more Justice and Peace in the Society. (Cf. Populorum Progressio no 1). JDPC of the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi was founded on the 28th November 2002 and structured in accordance with the mandate of the church to be actively involved in the holistic and integral development of human persons by creating a level playing ground where the dignity and rights of all are respected and restored.
JDPC Nnewi Diocese is Functional in the communities of the 4 Local Government Areas; Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Ihiala and Ekwusigo and operates in the 106 parishes in the Diocese.
We network with other NGOs that have related objectives and programs.
JDPC Nnewi Diocese champions the Humanitarian and Human Development activities in Nnewi and in Anambra state at large, we are a Registered Non- Governmental Organization that operates on the following activities;
- Skill acquisition
- Adult literacy program for women campaign against women assault
- Organizing town hall meetings
- Public seminar
- Health care/support program for orphans
- Vulnerable children
- Public Health care Programs in the communities
- Incorporated into these are Micro Finance Scheme and Orphan and Vulnerable Children Unit (O.V.C.).
JDPC Nnewi over the years has consistently defended the cause of the poor, denounced oppressions and suppressions, exploitations, promoted justice, peace and charity, with a forthright attention and care to a logical conclusion, fully affirming that evangelization cannot be complete without courageously impacting positively and transforming the socio-political and economic dimensions of human interest and environment.

JDPC Nnewi Diocese employs various strategy, in pursuit for our vision. These strategies include:
- Serially and logically linked participatory workshop and dialogue forums.
- Public awareness campaign and enlightenment program
- Strengthening grassroots’ organization by building their capacity and stimulating networking and coalitions.
- Legal aid and alternative dispute.
- Empowerment (working with poor, vulnerable and marginalized).
